Open Call for Workshop Leaders

2016 Adult Children of Alcoholics Convention

February 26-28, 2016

Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach and Marina Hotel

Redondo Beach, California

GUIDELINES AND APPLICATIONS

The 2016 theme is Opening the Door to Emotional Sobriety

(See this article on Emotional Sobriety written by Bill Wilson in the August 1958 issue of AA's Grapevine)

Based on this theme, the 2016 ACA Convention Planning Committee has developed a tentative schedule of events for the upcoming convention. The lineup of offerings include a keynote speaker who will give the major address and his “personal story”, eight workshops, a ceremony celebrating the 10th anniversary of ACA’s basic text, and a comedy show on Saturday night.

We are now extending a call for presentation proposals from potential workshop leaders. Please choose a submittal method:

WORKSHOP LEADER SELECTION

Selection of the workshop leaders is based on:

• The individual’s knowledge of the topic that they are proposing to present.

• Relevance to this year’s convention theme.

• The presenter’s presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively to large groups.

• Value of proposed contribution toward a well-balanced program.

• Candidate must be an active member of the Adult Children of Alcoholics 12-step program which includes attending meetings, having worked the 12-steps of ACA, and has sponsored Fellow Travelers.

• Attendance at past ACA Conventions and other ACA related events. (Bonus points)

26TH ANNUAL ACA CONVENTION

Members of the ACA Convention Planning Committee do not normally serve as workshop leaders.

There are eight workshops scheduled during the convention six of which are currently available. Two of the eight will be a Men’s and Woman’s workshop which will be facilitated by this year’s keynote speaker and his wife. We typically receive a great many more submissions than there are sessions available for presenting; therefore not everyone who submits a proposal will be invited to present. When each submission is received, it is reviewed for completeness as required in the application, so please provide all information requested in the format requested to be considered and to expedite the review process. All applications must be submitted online or emailed to program@acaconvention.org by midnight on November 15, 2015.

SUBMISSION TIMELINE

Submissions received after November 15th, 2015 will not be considered. The selection process will begin on November 16, 2015 and will be conducted by ACA Convention Planning Committee. Final selection will be completed by December 12, 2015 and formal invitations will be issued.

The ACA Convention Planning Committee seeks to create a motivational convention which includes a series of workshops, a keynote speaker and fun social activities. To create variety and interest, and allow for new ideas we are looking for new workshop leaders. Those who have presented at prior conventions may not be invited to present at this convention. If you are not asked to present, we still value you as a workshop leader and encourage you to apply for future conventions.

PRESENTATION CONTENTS

Workshop leaders are prohibited from offering a sales or promotional type presentation, or featuring their product or services in any of the workshop presentations. The presentation must be educational and conform to the theme of the convention. Workshop leaders who violate this rule will not be invited back.

ALLOWANCES

Workshop leaders selected will be offered the following allowances. Allowances are per presentation. Multiple presenters for one presentation should take this into consideration when applying. Any reimbursement will be made after the conference is completed according to the following policy:

• Mileage reimbursement at $.575 per miles for those residing outside of a 100 mile radius from the Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach

• One 3-day conference pass excluding meals which includes attendance to the Friday night mixer and the 10 year celebration of the Big Red Book (ACA’s basic text).

• A signed agreement will be completed with each invited presenter to clarify and confirm all arrangements between the ACA Convention Planning Committee and the presenter. All submitters should be sure they understand the allowances that will be offered and by submitting it they agree to the limitations therein.

• Each presenter will receive a $50 gift certificate to Easy Does It bookstore, the bookstore vendor at the ACA Convention. This certificate may be used during or after the convention either at the store’s physical location or for on-line purchases. Copy of itinerary with cost must be submitted to program@acaconvention.org for reimbursement post-conference. Workshop leaders expenses will be reimbursed within 30 days after the convention is over and all proper expense documentations have been received.

COMPANION

Presenters are more than welcome to bring a spouse or companion. However, please note that your companion will be requested to register and pay for the full conference (or events or meals in which he/she intends to participate).
